We offer many entry times throughout the year. You can progress from one course or level to another as your English improves. Our students come from different countries. Because English is the only common language at the Centre, you will practice your English skills while learning about other cultures and radiations.

This program gets you ahead for a variety of career certification involving a flexible designing of networks within (creation, implementation, administration and security). These elements make up the points-based structure of the overall program requirements.

Through out the program, you will work within the most popular with today’s business network operating systems such as (Microsoft windows 98, NT, 2000 and 2003).

The internet specialization will address you skills necessary to implement local and wide area networks by using a variety of the latest network technologies and tools that are specific to the internet. You will learn how to configure internet-based services, implement effective solutions to networking problems while ensuring the security of data flowing to from the internet, intranets and extranets.

Living in Namibia

Namibia is a technicolor dreamscape, a land of swirling apricot dunes and shimmering white flats, mirages and dust devils, black-faced impala and crimson-breasted shrike. Its major game park, which centers on the Great Etosha Pan, offers an exceptional range and abundance of wildlife and a landscape that could not provide a more striking backdrop for it. The coastal region is one of the world's most captivating desert regions, and in the south lies a canyon second in magnificence only to the Grand Canyon itself.

Location, Geography, Climate

Namibia has four primary geographic regions, all of which are of great interest to the adventure traveler. In the north lies the Etosha Pan, an enormous alluvial basin that has long since lost the lake that it once held. Although water supplies are now limited for most of the year to the perimeter of the pan, the area remains sufficiently fertile to support great herds of antelope species (including gemsbok, impala, and springbok), zebra, and--most famously--elephants. Many other species of wildlife abound as well, and the Etosha Pan is now the center of one of the finest game parks on the African continent .

Along the Namibian coast lies the Namib Desert, a spectacularly barren, brilliant red sand landscape that is divided into the Skeleton Coast (in the north) and the Diamond Coast (in the south). There are a number of features of this coastal desert that make it quite unlike any spot on earth. First, and most famously, it is the richest source of diamonds on the planet, and Namibia is as a result the world's largest diamond producer. Second, the dry and hot Namibian shoreline is situated right at the point where the icy waters of the Atlantic hit the continent--Antarctic water meets African desert, and the result is often unbelievable fog. This highly mysterious coast is now the site of the 19,000 sq. mile (49,000 sq. km) Namib-Naukluft National Park.

In the northeast, Namibian territory extends between Angola and Botswana along the slender corridor of the Caprivi Strip. Unlike most of the rest of Namibia, the Caprivi Strip is a wooded and fertile region, and it is crossed by a number of rivers. Two of these, the Zambezi and the Okavango, rank among the great rivers of Africa. The strip is also the site of several game parks, which while not offering such an abundance of wildife certainly provide spectacular scenery and relative solitude.Namibia's center is occupied by a high

escarpment plain. Windhoek, the capital and the only city of any size, is located smack dab in the middle of the country. In the northern part of the central plain is the Waterberg Plateau, a 150 sq. mi. (400 sq. km) shelf that rises 150 metres straight from the surrounding plain. The plateau is well-watered and lush, and is home to several rare and endangered species. At Namibia's southern tip is yet another geological wonder--the immense Fish River Canyon. Second only to the Grand Canyon in size, Fish River Canyon offers magnificent vistas and great--though strenuous--hiking.

Daytime heat, rather than rain, is the primary concern for most travellers to Namibia. While temperatures are generally comfortable year round, the warmest season is the period extending from November to March.

History & People

Namibia is populated by few people, but those few constitute an unusually diverse set of peoples and cultures. The country's predominant (85%) black population is composed of several different ethnic groups, including the San, the Khoi-Khoi, the Herero, and the Ovambo.

The small European population is composed of Germans and Afrikaners, and there is also a significant Asian minority. The great majority of Namibia's 1.5 million people live in the north, where there the climate is less arid and generally more hospitable.

The history of habitation in Namibia begins with the San, who were living there at least two thousand years ago. As a nation, however, Namibia is relatively young, having gained its independence after prolonged struggles only in march of 1990. The country was largely spared the attentions of the European powers until the end of the nineteenth century, when it came under the control of Germany. In 1920 the territory was awarded by the League of Nations to South Africa, which resisted Namibian independence for decades as a result of the area's enormous mineral wealth. Although the UN voted to end South African control in 1966, widespread regional warfare prevented the establishment of an independent government for almost two decades.

Accommodation

Accommodation in Windhoek

During your stay in Windhoek you will learn about theNamibian environment and culture, as well as theEnglish language. To make the most of youropportunity, we want yo

u to feel comfortable and 'athome' in Windhoek.

Home stay

Many students choose to stay with any Namibian family while learning English. It is an effective way of practicing English and learning about the Namibian way of life. Namibian households vary from a married couple with or without children, a one-parent family or a single person who wishes to live with an international student to exchange cultures. A household may also include other students.

With home stay, you live with a family, have your own bedroom and share the family bathroom. You are treated as a member of the family.

You should keep your room tidy and be helpful about the house. You are not expected to do any general cleaning or baby sitting. The family looks after you as if you were a member. They will help with your English studies and conversation and include you in family activities.

Home Share

Home Share is a good option for the independent student. You will have a furnished room in a home. You do your own cooking, shopping and cleaning - the normal everyday chores of shared accommodation. Home share is usually fully-furnished and includes sheets, towels, etc.

Temporary Accommodation

If you decide to find your own accommodation, we can arrange temporary accommodation for you on your first arrival. We can reserve you a room at a hotel near MLC.

Finding your own accommodation

You can rent your own apartment or house or rent a room in a shared apartment or house. Renting a room in 'share accommodation' is one of the best ways of mixing with Namibian students. Rents vary according to the size, standard and location of accommodation. Most rented accommodations in Windhoek are unfurnished. In furnished accommodation rent may be higher.

You can make an appointment with our accommodation officer to discuss your preferences about location, transport and cost. You can find accommodation through advertisements in newspapers, notices on University notice boards or from real estate agents. You will have to visit the apartments or houses and make your own decisions, but this will give you an opportunity to meet Windhoek-siders and explore the suburbs.

Rental accommodation

If you rent your own apartment or house, you will usually be asked to sign a contract (lease) to stay a minimum period (usually six months), and pay a deposit/bond equivalent to two or four weeks' rent.

The bond will be refunded to you when you leave. You will have to pay two or four weeks' rent in advance.
You may also have to pay a bond for telephone, gas or electricity. This bond is usually deducted from your last bill.

Make sure that you get a receipt for all payments you make, and do not lose any receipts. If you lose the receipt for a bond you will have difficulty getting your money refunded.

Mandume Language Centre MLC

Our Centre, which is known as Mandume Language Centre, offers an intensive course of English at beginners, elementary, intermediate and advanced level.

Our courses have been designed in such a way that can stimulate the mind. They involve a mixture of teaching lessons and self computing practice in English using modern CD supported software.

Each classroom has a maximum of 5 students so that the attention of the teacher is not too decentralized. Students attend 3 hours of classes in the morning with one teacher, 3 hours in the afternoons with a different teacher as well as 1 hour of computer a day.

Our courses are not only classroom based. Students visit some historical places in the company of their teachers.

Transport for the students is provided by the Centre to and from the Centre.Regarding accommodation and aiming to maximize the English learning process we suggest accommodating each student in a Namibian English speaking family.

MLC English

It improves your English skills in conversation, listening, writing, reading and grammar. The aim is to give you the confidence to live and work in the English-speaking world. It is also an excellent preparation for Academic English programs.

You can enter at any level and progress at your own pace. Our teaching styles encourage interactive language use so you will have many opportunities to practice the skills you are learning.

Students can study for any amount of time from two (2) to fifty (50) weeks a year. Our courses are structured for flexible progress around five-week modules according to the students capacities.

Airport Reception

Accommodation We can arrange temporary accommodation for you if you need it.
Orientation Program The Orientation Program we offer when you arrive will help you to get to know the city and our Centre. It covers general information on living in Namibia learning strategies, testing, interviews, visit to shops, and facilities.
Excursions We encourage students to participate in our MLC excursions. These outings are an important part of your English language learning program. When you are on an excursion, it is an opportunity to practice your English, have fun and get to know your teachers better.
Food Students can have coffee or tea at the Centre. Nearby, there are also cafes, coffee bars and restaurants offering food from all over the world. Students who have special dietary needs will also find eateries to suit them..
Health Services The Centre can provide health care service for you. You have access to these services when you need them. We charge a fee for this service
